Hagiga – The Story of Israeli Cinema is a milestone documentary series that challenges the way we think about the history of Israeli cinema.Part 1 focuses on the very beginnings, on the forefathers of Israeli cinema: Efrayim Kishon, Uri Zohar and Menahem Golan. Coming from theatre and show business backgrounds, they have sharp senses for the audience. They step into a small film industry with practically no budget. With lots of humor and tons of courage, they manage to make headlines: Oscar nominations and Cannes Festival prizes. They present a portrait of the newly forming Israeli society, a society of emigrants and soldiers, where humor, irony and underdogs are the true heroes.

Combining hundreds of interviews captured over two years with rare archival footage from behind the cameras, the series investigates the key figures of Israeli cinema and their films, following Israeli cinema from the sixties up to these days. Hagiga has screened at the Toronto Jewish Film Festival, the Jerusalem International Film Festival, the Australia International Jewish Film Festival, and the LA Israeli Film Festival. Colorado Premiere.
