In this modern adaptation of the biblical story of Abraham and his wives, we explore ancient themes through a modern romantic story of love, music and the complexities of parenthood.

Sarah, a dedicated harpist in the Jerusalem Philharmonic Orchestra, is married to Abraham, the charismatic conductor of the group. They have no children. When Hagar, a young horn player from East Jerusalem, joins the Orchestra, Sarah’s world erupts. A unique friendship evolves between the two women, as Hagar offers to carry the child of the barren couple. Time passes and Sarah raises Ismail, the child borne by Hagar, as her own. When Hagar returns to the Orchestra twelve years later, after Sarah has naturally given birth to son Jacob, emotions clash between the first-born son, a phenomenal but undisciplined pianist, and his two mothers.

Harmonia uncovers the metaphoric emotional roots of the ancient conflict between the two peoples living in Jerusalem, now seeking harmony through a dramatic encounter between Western and Eastern music. The film premiered at the Jerusalem International Film Festival, where it received Van Leer Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Film about Jewish Heritage. It recently screened at the Boston Jewish Film Festival and the Other Israel Film Festival at the JCC Manhattan. Colorado Premiere.
