Small World: A Mah Jongg Table Talk Tale

YOU’LL LOVE IT IF: You play mah jongg, you always wanted to play mah jongg or you just want to know more about the Jewish obsession with this ancient Chinese game.

Back by popular demand!!  After a triumphant event last year, which included a lecture on her book Searching for Bubbe Fischer and an afternoon of Mah Jongg instruction, Ms. Gooen returns to discuss her new book Small World.  The first book in her new series Mah Jongg Table Talk Tales, Small World takes a comedic approach to the melodrama of family secrets, long-lost friends and lovers, with a few good mah jongg stories thrown in for good measure. It includes the adventures of a pair of Jewish mothers and their daughters residing in and around Parnassus Pines, a retirement community in suburban New Jersey.

After her lecture, Ms. Gooen will again lead an afternoon of mah jongg, giving pointers and insight to players of any skill level. So bring your tiles and join in the fun!  Note: you must purchase a ticket for the lecture to participate in the mah jongg instruction.

Karen Gooen, a mah jongg maven, writer and instructor joins us again for some novel discussion and mah jongg play. Her first book, Searching for Bubbe Fischer, has connected her with mah jongg players and readers all over the United States.
