The Elaine Wolf Theatre Construction Update – Week of August 22, 2011

What a difference a week makes!  The seats and the entire front of the stage have been removed.  Staff rolled up their sleeves and along with some terrific student interns and our great contractors, we cleared the storage room, the pit, the dimmer room, the lighting booth, the grid, the workshop and backstage.  Our box office was cleared and relocated (temporarily) to our small dance studio down the hall that leads to the Pluss Theatre.  Our huge film projectors were also removed to storage.  A large dumpster and two storage containers were filled.  Our new box office has been framed and the exterior has begun to rise. Whew!  Busy, sweaty, dirty, but super productive week.

Planned work this week includes a pouring concrete inside the theatre to extend each of the rows forward and create our new double wide accessible aisle.  In addition, all important scaffolding will be erected inside the theatre that will enable the extensive work to begin on the reconstruction of the grid and ceiling prior to the installation of the new balcony.

We are delighted to announce that we have received a significant gift from Elaine Wolf for a major renovation of our mainstage theatre space.  The renovation will include a new balcony, accessible aisle, new stage, new electronic marquee, new lobby, new lighting and sound equipment and much more.  This summer we are working to complete all exterior elements of the project while the weather is warm.  Interior work will begin in August, once our summer program is completed.  A reminder that we are open for business during the entire construction period!!

We apologize in advance for our mess and any disruption this will cause (noise, parking, dust, etc).  Sometime in early 2012, we will proudly unveil the new state-of-the-art Elaine Wolf Theatre.
