The Elaine Wolf Theatre Construction Update – Week of September 19, 2011

While certainly not completed, the outside of the building is really beginning to take shape.  Much of the steel structure is in place and the awing for the new marquee already makes a dramatic statement.  Last week more work on the exterior and lots of noisy concrete demo.  In fact, destroying the concrete wall to make way for the back of the new balcony and the new lighting booth has proved more difficult than we imagined.  After days of jack-hammering, workers are moving to concrete saws to finish the job.

Planned work this week includes continued concrete demo on the area around our old box office and lighting booth.  There will be periods of noise – so be mindful if you are coming during the day to our business offices.  There will also be more work on the steel framing and sheeting outside.

We are delighted to announce that we have received a significant gift from Elaine Wolf for a major renovation of our mainstage theatre space.  The renovation will include a new balcony, accessible aisle, new stage, new electronic marquee, new lobby, new lighting and sound equipment and much more.  This summer we are working to complete all exterior elements of the project while the weather is warm.  Interior work will begin in August, once our summer program is completed.  A reminder that we are open for business during the entire construction period!!

We apologize in advance for our mess and any disruption this will cause (noise, parking, dust, etc).  Sometime in early 2012, we will proudly unveil the new state-of-the-art Elaine Wolf Theatre.
